What is FILSON?
“MIGHT AS WELL HAVE THE BEST” “If you have anything, have the best”
These are the words of our founder CLINTON C.FILSON.
Filson was founded in 1897
in Seattle, Washington as an outdoor clothing manufacturer to take on the gold rush.
We began producing clothing using the finest natural materials and uncompromising design and sewing, as our clothing is subjected to heavy use in gold mining, an extremely harsh environment for clothing.
Over time, the FILSON mark came to be synonymous with trust for men working in Alaska and the Northwest.
It still takes more than two years to make wool from cutting the raw wool to finishing it into a product, and because of that stubbornness, American forest rangers, lumberjacks, hunters, and adventurers are very demanding. It continues to be loved by people who require true quality in a natural environment, and is also used by some U.S. Air Force and Army staff.
When talking about excellent quality and durability, there are many stories that say that it is passed down from parent to child and from child to grandchild.
