What is SHAKA?
SHAKA is a sandal brand born in the Republic of South Africa in the 1990s.
At our own factory in South Africa, we produce high quality sandals with original designs inspired by traditional African lace-up footwear.
Sports sandals using webbing tape, which was a trend at the time, incorporated traditional African patterns and colors, and began selling in Japan in the late 1990s.
Shaka rapidly grew in popularity and recognition due to the outdoor boom, but SHAKA disappeared in the early 2000s when the boom ended.
After that, it became popular in the used clothing market as a brand known only to those in the know, and because of its shape, it continued to be supported by enthusiasts at festivals and outdoor scenes, and after more than a decade, it was reprinted in 2013.
The rugged sole shape, strong yet flexible webbing tape, and even the plastic parts have been faithfully reproduced, while the cushioning, sole strength, and foot comfort have been improved to create a modern-style sports sandal. It has gained a lot of support not only in the outdoor scene but also in the street scene.
